Still unable to reach the heart of what’s troubling her son Nagisa (Motoki Nakazawa), Minato (Hiromi Nagasaku) is caught off guard when he asks her to go somewhere with him—a place that once held special meaning for their family.

Meanwhile, Oedo’s (Kenichi Matsuyama) ex-wife, Mio (Shiori Doi), suddenly reappears. Using her upcoming move as an excuse, she once again leaves her pug, Hotate, in Oedo’s care. Unfortunately, he already has important plans that day. Desperate for help, he turns to Minato, who happily agrees to look after the dog for a few hours. That simple favor soon leads to Oedo setting foot in the Machiyama home for the very first time.

Back at the academy, the class takes on yellowtail—a fish famous for changing its name as it grows. The lesson prompts the students to reflect on their own growth and the ways they’ve changed since beginning the program. But just as the day ends on an upbeat note, Minato walks out of class and comes face-to-face with Mio, who is waiting for Oedo…
