Conferment Ceremony of the Decoration

The Japanese government announced the first recipient of The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays of Spring 2019 for the Reiwa era and the Conferment Ceremony of the Decoration was held at the official residence of Consul General on October 15th.
Every year, Japanese government recognizes individuals who have contributed to either the country or the society and award them a decoration.
From the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Japan in LA, Henry Takei was chosen as the first recipient of the Reiwa era.

Takei received the The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. Consul General Akira Muto awarded him the certificate of commendation and the medal.

Takei worked as the Clinical Professor, Section of Periodontics, School of Dentistry in UCLA and contributed to periodontology.
He especially focused on guiding and training young researchers along with promoting academic exchange between Japan and the US. Takei lectured at several educational institutes and guided many instructors and dentists.

Family and friends attended the award ceremony and celebrated Takei’s achievement.
