Love to Nippon

A memorial gathering, Love to Nippon was held on Sunday, March 11th at Downtown’s LAPD for the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake. Love to Nippon is a restoration project started by Masako Unoura when she experienced the great earthquake in Japan, and is the 7th year. At the event, the Tohoku region prefectures promoted their places; Japanese American organizations shared information and disaster kits; and, Wadaiko and shodo performance were held. The memorial service was done by the LA Buddhist Association and the Little Tokyo Japanese American Religion Association, and attendees all prayed for the victims. LAFD Chief Deputy, David Richardson stated “Our team headed to the scene 7 years ago when the earthquake struck. All I can say from the trainings is that, we shall continue to better ourselves and keep supporting the local community.” President, Douglas Erber of the Japan America Society of SoCal and Chief Consul of Consulate General of Japan in LA, Hiroki Matsuo stated their greetings; and the Union
Church of LA and Friends sung 2 numbers for the reconstruction of the Great Eastern Earthquake.

Pechanga Resort and Casino Grand opening

The construction for Temecula’s Pechanga Resort and Casino finished. March 8th was the Asian media press day, introducing the new facilities. Pechanga Resort and Casino is the largest casino in the state of California located on the Indian reservation. It is owned and ran by the Luiseño Indians. The construction started on 2015 with a fee of $3 hundred million. A hotel tower having 568 rooms, 17 therapy rooms with a 2 story spa and 4.5 acres of pool area were newly added. At the ceremony, President, Edith Atwood of Pechanga Development Corporation greeted; this is for hoping economic development of the Pechanga band. He stated that Pechanga has a positive effect on the local infrastructure for the tribe and local community. Pechanga Resort and Casino also provides services and events targeting Asian customers; and a new logo for the Asian community using the legendary animal that brings happiness, Pi Xiu was also announced.
