{"id":16544,"date":"2018-08-26T20:00:19","date_gmt":"2018-08-26T22:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhollywoodnet.com\/?post_type=socaljapan&#038;p=16544"},"modified":"2018-11-12T07:53:03","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T09:53:03","slug":"2018%e5%b9%b48%e6%9c%8826%e6%97%a5-%e6%94%be%e9%80%81","status":"publish","type":"socaljapan","link":"https:\/\/jhollywoodnet.com\/en\/socaljapan\/2018%e5%b9%b48%e6%9c%8826%e6%97%a5-%e6%94%be%e9%80%81\/","title":{"rendered":"August 26th 2018 O.A."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">August 26th 2018 O.A.<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_____\u201d width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Nisei Week Coronation<\/h2>\n<p>The summer festival for LA Japanese American community\u00a8 Nisei Week was held for a month since July and attracted many people.<br \/>\nThe LA Tanabata Festival was held on August 11th and 12th at the JANM.<br \/>\nThis is the 10th year for the event held by the Nisei Week Foundation\u00a8 Little Tokyo Koban and Visitor\u00dfs Center and the Nanka Kenjinkai Kyogikai.<br \/>\nThe colorful decorations made by local organizations\u00a8 individual and companies entertained the visitors.<br \/>\nThe Nisei Week Coronation was held at the Aratani Theater on August 11th.<br \/>\nNisei Week Coronation is an event where the Nisei Queen is chosen.<br \/>\nParticipants must be a female under the age of 25 who is elected by the Japanese organizations in LA. 6 were nominated as candidate this year.<br \/>\nThey all performed manners\u00a8 dance and speech they practiced for 3 months.<br \/>\nThe decision was based on elegance along with how intellectual the candidates are and personality.<br \/>\nAnd the results.<br \/>\nAlice Amano was given the gown and tiara from 2017 Queen\u00a8 Jordyn Adachi.<br \/>\nKelly Midori Tsunawaki was chosen as the 1st Princess.<br \/>\nJuli Ann Drindak was chosen as Miss Tomodachi.<br \/>\nThe Queen and court will represent the Japanese American community for a year and appear in various events held in LA. They will also visit locations nationwide and act as an ambassador when visiting Nagoya, Japan the sister city of LA.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Nisei Week Grand Parade<\/h2>\n<p>The following day, August 12th was the Grand Parade.<br \/>\nIt is the main event where cultural organizations, companies and government officials participate. The street was filled with huge gallery watching the parade.<br \/>\nThe veterans who served in WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War started the parade.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s Parade Marshal was actor and comedian, Aaron Takahashi.<br \/>\nVincent Okamoto, a former American judge and a Vietnam War veteran was chosen as the Grand<br \/>\nMarshal.<br \/>\nBon dance is held every year living up the event. This year\u2019s theme was \u201cTokyo Olympics 2020\u201d and \u201cVictory.\u201d<br \/>\nIt was choreographed by Fujima Kansuma who became 100 years old this year.<br \/>\nThen came taiko drums, karate and judo organizations with anime and cosplay organizations following.<br \/>\nThe \u201cNebuta\u201d catching the spotlight for the last few years came out on the second half of the parade.<br \/>\nThe appearance of the second generation nebuta float excited the<br \/>\naudience.<br \/>\nLastly came the new Queen and court who were crowned the day before.<br \/>\nThey wrapped up the festival by<br \/>\nwaving and smiling to the audience.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship<\/h2>\n<p>The World Gyoza Eating Contest by Day-Lee Foods, Inc. was held at the JANM on August 18th.<br \/>\nThis contest is officially recognized by the Major League Eating (MLE) and is the 12th year.<br \/>\nThe Nisei Week staff and the Queen and court of the previous year competed at the opening act.<br \/>\nFollowed by the LA Fire Department fighting against the LAPD.<br \/>\n\u201cHelping Hands\u201d Nininbaori act contest was held between Kenjinkais, too.<br \/>\nAt the main event, 18 food fighters competed.<br \/>\nJoey Chestnut is last year\u2019s winner and currently ranks 1st in the world for MLE.<br \/>\nAll the eyes were on him and Matt Stonie who ranks 3rd and Geoffrey Esper, last year\u2019s runner-up.<br \/>\nThe one who eats the most gyoza in 10 minutes is the winner.<br \/>\nThe competitors stuff their faces with gyoza.<br \/>\nJoey Chestnut defended his title. He ate 359 gyozas in total.<br \/>\nA winning trophy and $2000 were granted to him.<br \/>\nGeoffrey Esper was the runner-up eating 297 gyozas. Matt Stonie finished 4th place eating 222 pieces.<br \/>\nDay-Lee foods will be donating 1 case of food products to the LA food bank for each plate eaten at the contest.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Sake &#038; Food Exhibition<\/h2>\n<p>The event by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. that imports Japanese food products was held on August 4th at Anaheim Business Expo Center.<br \/>\nThis event is annually held for food industry individuals and is the 11th year.<br \/>\nThe eating utensils were popular at the event.<br \/>\nThis is a project organized with vendors from Japan and attracted many restaurant individuals since good as new utensils were available at a great deal.<br \/>\n30 brewers from Japan exhibited at the sake booth.<br \/>\nLocal junmai, ginjo, daiginjo, beer and shochu from all over Japan was<br \/>\nintroduced.<br \/>\n\u201cTan taka tan\u201d, a Hokkaido shochu using Japanese shiso and the popular \u201cKaruizawa Beer\u201d attracted attention.<br \/>\nMore than 50 Japanese food related companies participated at the food booth.<br \/>\nOther than the popular ramen and takoyaki, unique vegan sushi using tomatoes were introduced.<br \/>\n1200 people have attended this year and was busy throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] August 26th 2018 O.A.
