{"id":16539,"date":"2018-07-22T20:00:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-22T22:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jhollywoodnet.com\/?post_type=socaljapan&#038;p=16539"},"modified":"2018-11-12T07:24:46","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T09:24:46","slug":"2018-07-22","status":"publish","type":"socaljapan","link":"https:\/\/jhollywoodnet.com\/en\/socaljapan\/2018-07-22\/","title":{"rendered":"July 22nd 2018 O.A."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">July 22nd 2018 O.A.<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fhLUjNegOrs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Nisei Week Japanese Festival Opening Ceremony<\/h2>\n<p>The opening ceremony for this year\u2019s Nisei Week was held at the JANM on Sunday, July 15th.<br \/>\nNisei Week is the largest summer festival in the US, and this year marks the 78th year.<br \/>\n180 community members attended and funds were donated to the Nisei Week Foundation by JBA sponsoring the ceremony, as well as Japan House LA.<br \/>\nThe Konko Church of LA held a Purification Ceremony wishing for the safety and success of Nisei Week.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s theme and lead song was also announced.<br \/>\nChoreographer, Madame Fujima Kansuma had her 100th birthday and a bouquet was given to her.<br \/>\nNisei Week began in 1935 as a festival celebrating the Japanese American culture and history.<br \/>\nVarious events are held in Little Tokyo and nearby areas.<br \/>\nAugust 11th is the Tanabata Festival.<br \/>\n12th is the main event, the grand parade.<br \/>\n18th is the gyoza eating contest held by Daily Foods.<br \/>\nThe closing ceremony will be on the 19th.<br \/>\nThe Queen and her Court lightens up the festival every year.<br \/>\nThe candidates of the Nisei Queen was also announced this day.<br \/>\nTori Ai Kamada from Gardena Evening Optimist,<br \/>\nKelly Midori Tsunawaki Mock from the Japanese Restaurant Association of America,<br \/>\nLauren Rei Miyamoto from East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center,<br \/>\nMarica Katie Synder from Venice Japanese Community Center &amp; Venice-West LA,<br \/>\nAlice Marina Amano from OC Nikkei Coordinating Council and Juli Ann Drindak from Pasadena Japanese Cultural Institute.<br \/>\nThe new 2018 Queen will be chosen from these 6 candidates at the Coronation Ball on August 11th.<br \/>\nPlease visit the Nisei Week website to find out about other event information.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Anime Expo 2018<\/h2>\n<p>North America\u2019s largest Japanese anime convention, Anime Expo was held from July 5th through 8th at the LA Convention Center.<br \/>\nThis annual event that happens during the week of Independence Day has now become a seasonal tradition in LA.<br \/>\nAnime fans worldwide came to attend this year once again.<br \/>\nVarious anime and game companies exhibited, promoting their newest lineups and merchandises.<br \/>\nThe famous anime \u201cMy Hero Academia\u201d had its anime movie world premier with a panel discussion of the directors and producers of anime movies that are coming soon.<br \/>\nPhoto booths that remind fans of a scene from an anime were set up at the Entertainment Hall and fans dressed in their cosplay outfit took pictures.<br \/>\nThe Society of the Promotion of Japanese Animation started Anime Expo in 1992 and this is their 27th year.<br \/>\nIn recent years, they started Internet streaming and achieving wide range of fans.<br \/>\nMerchandises and art works were sold at the Exhibition Hall and attendees enjoyed their time.<br \/>\nAbout 110,000  people attended the event.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>5th World Sake Sommelier Competition, US Regional Competition<\/h2>\n<p>The US regional competition for the World Sake Sommelier Competition was held in Downtown\u2019s Sake School of America on Saturday, June 16th.<br \/>\nSake Sommeliers are certified individuals who utilizes their knowledge in Japanese sake and advises on the best sake that goes with your meal.<br \/>\nThere are currently 30,000 certified sommeliers in Japan and 15,000 overseas.<br \/>\nThis contest is held by the Sake Service Institute once in<br \/>\nevery 4 years and this is the 5th time.<br \/>\n20 regional winners from the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, S. Korea, and England will go to Tokyo for its final.<br \/>\n3 competitors from LA participated in the regional competition.<br \/>\nThe competition was divided into 2 parts of written and practical skill test, taking place in a scenario of an actual restaurant providing Japanese sake and shochu.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s winner, Aya Nomoto will be competing in the World Competition held in Tokyo next year as one of the members representing the US.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Conferment Ceremony Honoring Mr. Ernest Doizaki<\/h2>\n<p>Tuesday, June 26th was the Conferment Ceremony was held at the official residence of the Consul General of Japan in LA honoring Mr.<br \/>\nErnest Doizaki for receiving the Conferment of the Order in Spring.<br \/>\nEvery Spring and Autumn, the Japanese government confers individuals who contributed to Japan or the Japanese community.<br \/>\n2 individuals were chosen for Spring under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in LA.<br \/>\nErnest Doizaki, who was awarded The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and SIlver Rays is a third generation Japanese American born in LA.<br \/>\nHe studied abroad at Waseda Univ. in Japan after graduating college.<br \/>\nComing home to the US, he then worked at American Fish Company ran<br \/>\nby his father, George Doizaki and devoted on spreading the Japanese<br \/>\nfood culture.<br \/>\nCity of Hope, focusing on cancer and diabetes treatment also acknowledges Doizaki\u2019s work and bestowed the Spirit of Life Award.<br \/>\nHe was also active in improving the human rights of Japanese Americans; he found the JANM and worked as the chairman.<br \/>\n40 people from his family and friends attended the ceremony and celebrated Doizaki\u2019s conferment.<br \/>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] July 22nd 2018 O.A.
