The first protagonist, Riku Hayase, is a gentle, kind-hearted pastry chef who runs a small cake shop with his wife, son, and mother. But two and a half years ago, his wife suddenly disappeared. When detectives later appear with news that her body has been found, the story takes a shocking turn. Before he can even grieve, Riku is framed with fabricated evidence and arrested as the prime suspect in her murder.<\/p>\n

The other protagonist is Ayumi Gido, a detective in the Metropolitan Police Department\u2019s First Investigative Division. Connected to criminal organizations in the underworld, Gido is a corrupt cop who will stop at nothing\u2014including illegal methods\u2014to secure an arrest.<\/p>\n
