Stamp Our Story
A forever stamp honoring the service of the Japanese American soldiers of WWII is now available. A ceremony was held on Friday, June 4th at JANM in Little Tokyo.
These “Go For Broke Forever” are issued by the USPS.
“Go For Broke” was the motto for Japanese American soldiers that fought in Europe and the Pacific War.
They fought for the country despite discrimination and having their family members incarcerated.
It has been 75 years since WWII and many veterans have died.
4 veterans attended the ceremony and were honored.
Civic group “Stamp Our Story” made this stamp possible.
Stamp Our Story is an ad hoc group mainly of family and friends of veterans and support groups.
The stamp is the culmination of over 15 years of hard work.
The stamp was presented with the founder of the group, Fusako Takahashi, and celebrated the accomplishments of Japanese American soldiers.
Representatives and supporters stated “We hope this history gets passed down to the next generation” in their video messages.
Go For Broke Forever can be purchased at USPS nationwide or online.
