Japan House Los Angeles
It’s been a year since Japan House LA in Hollywood Highland opened.
Japan House started as a project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to spread a deeper level of understanding towards Japanese culture to the world.
The 5th floor is a library and a multipurpose room used for community events. There also is a Japanese restaurant.
The gallery in the 2nd floor exhibited various forms of Japanese art from high-tech to traditional crafts.
Currently, the “BAKERU” exhibition is being held.
It is an interactive art showcasing northern region of Tohoku’s seasonal folk “Namahage”, “Shishi-Odori”, “Kase-dori” and “Saotome.”
Attendee’s silhouette transforms into a “supernatural being” once they put on a mask in front of the screen and that puts an emphasis on the nature upon which people’s lives depend.
This event is planned by a creative studio in Sendai to spread the Tohoku culture to different generations and regions since the Great Eastern Earthquake made it difficult to pass down local traditions.
BAKERU is held until October 6. Free admission.
