On Saturday, September 12, the Keiro no Hi Festival was held at Nishi Hongwanji in Little Tokyo.

The festival was launched by Keiro, a nonprofit serving older adults in the Japanese American community, in conjunction with Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day.
This year marked the festival’s 9th anniversary.

About 500 people from across Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange counties attended the event.
Shuttle buses were provided, allowing older adults and their families to come together and enjoy the festivities.

A vendor fair featuring local small businesses was also held.
Attendees browsed handmade goods and clothing, while others gathered information and resources to support their daily lives as older adults.

A game area also offered activities such as Plinko and claw machines, where attendees had fun alongside volunteer staff.
The venue was filled with smiles and laughter.

The festival also featured Japanese sweets making, home cooking, Japanese dance, koto music, choir performances, as well as hands-on activities.
Lunch was also provided, and participants enjoyed a full day of activities.

Keiro also recently unveiled its new Board and Care Home, Keiro Kikyo Home, in Torrance at a preview event for community members in August.
The home will accommodate six residents age 60 and older, with two shared rooms, two private rooms, and common living and bathroom areas.
“Staff will be on site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
They will assist residents with daily activities such as bathing and dressing.
Culturally sensitive meals will also be provided, including Japanese home cooking, as well as Hawaiian and Asian dishes.
