Episode 1

After losing her husband in an accident, Minato Machiyama (Hiromi Nagasaku) has devoted her life to her son, Nagisa (Motoki Nakazawa). When he finally leaves home to start his career, she’s left on her own for the first time. At 50, she’s forced to confront what comes next—but the sudden quiet brings an unexpected sense of emptiness.

Struggling to figure out who she is beyond being a “mother,” Minato is handed a brochure by her friend Izumi Isoda (Yumiko Udo) for a sushi academy that promises to turn out chefs in just three months. Almost on impulse, she decides to enroll.

On her first day, she comes face-to-face with Umiya Oedo (Kenichi Matsuyama), a strict,, no-nonsense instructor whose piercing gaze alone commands the room. He wastes no time laying down the rules: “If you can’t even greet properly, you’re not fit to stand at the starting line.”

Her classmates couldn’t be more different—a refined older gentleman taking it up as a hobby (Shiro Sano), a former top consultant chasing a career change (First Summer Uika), and a quiet young man (Soma Santoki), among others. Surrounded by strong personalities from all walks of life, Minato finds herself overwhelmed by the gap in drive and perspective. Unsure how to begin her “second chapter,” she gradually loses confidence and begins to falter.
